A reminder that Joshua's memorial service will be on June 13 at 2pm in the Marin Headlands. It will be held in the Sunset Building at the Headlands Institute. A reception will follow immediately in the same building. Be sure to bring a sweater and/or dress in layers, as the weather is unpredictable this time of year and may in fact be very foggy. The Institute's website gives very good directions, which can be downloaded at Headlands Institute Driving Directions.

Some of you may have seen Joshua's obituary in the Orange County Register. Unfortunately, you also likely saw that they misspelled "Ewing." They will run the obituary again with the correct spelling in the Monday, June 2 paper. They were supposed to correct the online version, although when I checked today, it was still misspelled.

That may be an indication of how I am doing, since I actually approved the layout of the obituary before it was printed. Maybe that is how it goes: all seems to be fine, but really, under the surface it's not quite. I know everyone is concerned with how I am doing, and again, it is a question I have difficulty answering. What is a "normal" response to this? I get up each morning, walk the dog, carry on everyday conversations, visit with friends, take care of the logistics of handing a death. And do most all of it without tears. But there is a huge void, a silence always lurking.

I look forward to seeing many of you on the 13th. I know so many more of you will be there in spirit.

Dear Laura,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Although Kevin only met Joshua once he left quite an impression on him, especially with regards to his amazing travel adventures. He was an incredible individual. While we can't make it out on the 13th we will be there in spirit and look forward to seeing you in NYC in the Fall.
Love, Cha Cha and Kevin
