Joshua is very comfortable right now, mostly sleeping and drinking just a bit. Jim (hospice nurse) has ventured to say that he thinks Joshua has only a week left. So we are sitting with him, keeping him comfortable and watching the process unfold. I've sent Jackson to stay with the couple who watch him regularly. It will keep the apartment quieter, and Heather and Brad will give him lots of love and attention and exercise.

I have begun to plan a memorial service for him, which will be here in the Bay Area. No date determined as of yet. I hope this service will allow us to celebrate his life and carry on with our own, holding his memory with us.

Separate from this, I hope to visit New York, perhaps in the fall, and gather together our NY friends (as well as whomever else may be nearby). Central Park was Joshua's favorite place in the city, so I'd like to have a picnic in his honor - very informal. He ran there almost weekly, we often enjoyed picnics there, and took in many a summer concert.

My Dearest Cousin Laura - I hope you can feel all the love and support coming from our family here is South Dakota. It's been so long since I've seen you but I know what a strong heart and will you have and I see you sharing all of that with Joshua in his time of need. I have never had the pleasure of meeting him but I cherish the thoughts and fun you and he have shared through you blog and your photos. I wish he and I could have met as I'm sure we would have had a blast sharing our passion for the outdoors.
Know that you have all our love and support Laura!
